Council approves adding three Axon Fleet 3 vehicle cameras for police patrol cars

The Timnath Town Council on Feb. 25 approved Resolution No. 15, Series 2025, amending the town’s equipment lease agreement with Axon Enterprise to add three Fleet 3 vehicle-mounted cameras for new patrol vehicles.
Chief Jones told the council the amendment was competitively procured and would add vehicle-mounted systems that activate with emergency lights and can capture activity in passenger compartments. Jones said the town’s current fleet includes about 28 vehicles, of which four are temporarily rotated out of Fleet 3 coverage; roughly 24 cars are equipped with Fleet 3 under the contract. He said the town pays about $243,000 annually for Fleet 3 service across the fleet and that the incremental cost for the three additional units is roughly $4,000 per year (about $300 per unit per month).
Council members asked about interoperability with neighboring agencies, retention of footage, and scalability as the fleet grows. Jones said some neighboring agencies have in-car systems on specialized units and that storage is the most expensive component; standard retention is about 30 days unless footage is retained indefinitely for litigation or an active case.
A motion to approve the resolution was made and seconded; the motion passed by voice vote, 4-0.
