Mason County Animal Shelter Director Brandy Thomas presented the shelter’s December activity, telling the fiscal court the facility recorded adoptions, reclaimings and rescues and that community donations supported operations.
Thomas reported that for December the shelter recorded 20 dogs out (12 adopted, 5 reclaimed, 3 rescued) and that no euthanizations occurred. She said 18 dogs were in the shelter during the month and described intake categories including strays, abandoned cases and owner surrenders. The county’s animal control team responded to a number of calls and completed field responses into the community.
The shelter reported a monthly donations total of $6,630.53 (as presented to the fiscal court) and said community support included direct monetary gifts and in‑kind items from an Amazon wish list and other local donors; the record includes line items submitted in the meeting packet. Volunteers contributed 64.25 hours in December. The shelter completed eight spay/neuter surgeries and performed six microchipping procedures during the month.
Judge McNeil and other court members thanked Thomas and highlighted coordination with law enforcement on incidents and shelter volunteer support during the winter weather. The court accepted the animal shelter report by motion and roll call.
Thomas also noted shelter staff challenges getting employees to sites and the shelter’s ongoing efforts to replace damaged equipment through insurance and community support; specific replacement plans were discussed but no fiscal requests were made to the court at the meeting.
