Green Code Committee focuses on stormwater and potential ordinance audits to reduce flooding

The Green Code Committee reported Feb. 26 that stormwater and localized flooding have been its principal focus. Committee members described presentations by consultants (including Dan Christian and Christy Alwin of Eagle) and discussion of neighborhood flooding, outreach and potential policy interventions to mitigate flood impacts.
Committee members said they expect to identify recommended action steps at an upcoming meeting, begin drafting ordinance language for potential land-use and development standards, and then send recommended language to council for review and adoption. Staff member Landon said drafting and committee review could carry into April and May and then return to the Planning Commission as needed.
Committee chair and commissioners also proposed a staff-led audit of the existing code to identify places where the city could insert policy language to support flood mitigation and environmental stewardship. Several commissioners said they were pleased with the public engagement and hoped the audit would align with a planned decennial code review.
