Planning staff outlines timeline for comprehensive plan update; public review and 42-day statutory review period expected in May–June

Planning staff updated the commission on the Comprehensive Plan Update process and a likely timeline for public review and adoption. Staff member Landon said the Comprehensive Plan Update Coordinating Committee reviewed an initial draft from the consultant team and planned to return staff comments to the consultants within the week. The plan will then go back to the Comprehensive Plan Committee in late March and to the Planning Commission for review and a public hearing.
Landon said the city will send the draft plan to neighboring jurisdictions, railroads and other required stakeholders for a statutorily required 42-day review period, which staff expects to run through May and June. The city plans a public open-house event in late May similar to a fall event called "Every Plan Everywhere All at Once," and staff expects the Planning Commission to forward a recommendation to City Council. Landon said the current timetable projects Planning Commission and council consideration for adoption in July.
Commissioners thanked staff for the work and commented they expected the plan to be clear and concise. Landon said staff will distribute the next draft to the Comprehensive Plan Committee and then return it for Planning Commission public hearings and comment.
