The Board of Regents BASC committee voted to postpone final action on Kansas Free Application Day until the March BASC meeting to allow enrollment managers and provosts to complete data collection and analysis.
Misty Knox reported aggregate application and yield data from the 2023 Free Application Day effort, saying the initiative showed a 30% yield for applications submitted during the three-day event. Knox recommended keeping the October date pattern (i.e., holding the event in October 2025) to preserve continuity and data comparability.
Committee members and institutional staff said enrollment managers from each campus are meeting to review internal processes and to prepare a report for provosts. A staff speaker said enrollment managers had committed a report to provosts by Friday and that staff could circulate that report by email ahead of the March meeting to inform committee decisions.
Regent Jim Mendoza moved to carry the item to the March meeting; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Committee members said they support the purpose of Kansas Free Application Day but want to explore ways to streamline admissions processes and reduce administrative burden before finalizing dates.
Knox and staff noted the upcoming "Kids A Y" (as referenced in the meeting) report anticipated in October will provide additional insight into the initiative’s impact. The committee did not set a new date at the meeting; it asked staff and provosts to provide the enrollment-managers’ report in advance of the March BASC meeting.
