Regents committee affirms clarification to academic program-review metrics

The clarification says institutions may include students who immediately pursue graduate study upon graduation in the “talent pipeline” metric, and those students should not be included in the five-year post‑baccalaureate wage metric. "The key phrase there is, allowing institutions to include students who immediately pursue graduate study upon graduation can be included in the talent pipeline metric," Dr. Monholland said.
The distinction matters because the two metrics measure different outcomes: one counts students continuing into graduate study as part of a state talent pipeline metric, while the wage metric intentionally excludes those same students from five‑year wage calculations. Academic‑affairs staff told the committee the phrase had been inadvertently deleted in the board issue paper after BASC approved revisions on Nov. 6, 2024, and that KBOR staff discovered the discrepancy after the December board meeting.
A member moved to approve the committee’s original intent so the corrected language could be placed on the board consent agenda in March. Regent Alicia Johnston seconded the motion. The committee voted to approve the affirmation; members signified their approval verbally and the chair said the motion passed.
Next steps: KBOR staff will add the clarified language to the board consent agenda for the March meeting and include the committee’s affirmation in the official record.
