Needham planning board member reports town manager search committee advancing; interviews slated for March 10

Paul Alpert, the Planning Board's representative to the town manager search committee, told colleagues on Feb. 25 that the committee met in executive session and reviewed multiple resumes supplied by a recruiting consultant.
Alpert said the consultant separated candidates into three groups—those to definitely consider, those who do not qualify, and a gray area—and that the committee selected a group of applicants it will interview on March 10. "We chose a number of the applicants for our committee to interview, which will also be an executive session," Alpert said.
Alpert said the committee expects to forward between three and five finalists to the Select Board after interviews. The names of finalists will become public once sent to the Select Board. Several board members asked whether internal candidates had applied; Alpert said he could not answer that question at the meeting.
No formal planning-board action was taken on the recruitment; Alpert's remarks were an informational report. The board noted it will miss Alpert when his term ends; Alpert said the April 1 meeting will be his last meeting.
