During new business, Michelle (solid waste staff) reported on recycling and landfill activity and on grant procurement for new recycling equipment. Michelle said the county had sent quotes to the state for a recycling equipment grant and was awaiting the state's next steps before placing orders. She reported recycling revenues were down and said the centers had remained open despite attendant absences; she also said quarterly state inspections have returned without areas of concern.
Michelle provided numerical figures on the record: recycling revenue reported at $7,399.01 for the period and 60.41 tons collected; landfill costs reported at $34,454.22 for 957.86 tons. (Figures are per the department report presented at the meeting.)
The committee approved Board of Education budget amendment No. 2, which included transfers and grant adjustments for preschool grants, "GEAR UP," STS, a mini grant, refunds, and a component from fund balance, and the committee noted the school board had reviewed the amendment before it came to the committee.
The committee also approved County budget amendment No. 3, a routine quarterly cleanup amendment that included multiple contributions and grants (a recycling equipment grant, training equipment grants, a mental health transport grant, an EMA DOJ grant, firefighter equipment/training grants, and state salary supplements), as well as use of restricted fund balance in places. Committee members described this amendment as the standard quarterly adjustment that touches multiple departments.
A separate agenda item for Board of Education surplus was approved without further comment.
The committee voted to approve the agenda, minutes from the Jan. 28 meeting, and to accept the monthly reports as presented.
No controversial policy changes were adopted as part of these routine approvals; committee members indicated some items on the amendments would be handled separately where required (for example, the morgue amendment was handled in a separate vote).
