Roselle Sister Cities committee proposes Mola di Bari, Italy, as potential sister city

Volunteers with the Roselle Sister Cities Italian Committee briefed the Village Board on Feb. 24 about a prospective sister-city relationship with Mola di Bari, a coastal town in the Puglia region of Italy.
Gina Vascovi, chair of the committee, introduced Patrick Capriati, a senior trade-promotion officer with the Italian Trade Commission, who described Mola di Bari’s size and historical features and said cultural, education and arts exchanges would be priorities. "The population of Mola Di Bari is around 25,000, which is the size of the population of Roselle," Capriati said, and he noted the town’s medieval cathedral, castle and an opera house.
Capriati said the committee hopes to plan a trip to Mola di Bari in September to coincide with the town’s religious celebration of the Madonna; he asked the board for permission to continue pursuing a formal sister-city relationship. There was no objection from the board and staff encouraged the committee to identify ways the village could partner with the volunteers.
Why it matters: sister-city relationships are volunteer-led cultural exchanges that can support education, arts and tourism ties; the committee asked only for board support to proceed to next steps and did not seek any binding agreement at this meeting.
