Student representatives from High School North and High School South updated the board on winter and upcoming spring sports, performing arts, clubs and recent student awards. The board also made a formal recognition of coaches and individual athletes for recent achievements.
Student representatives from High School North and High School South reported on athletics, performing arts, clubs and student activities and the board formally recognized several coaches and athletes for fall and winter accomplishments.
High School South representative Rachel Joseph highlighted winter track athletes qualifying for national championships, a girls'team wrestler placing second at the Mercer County tournament, and the WVP United hockey team reaching the state tournament. She also described cultural and service activities including China Night, a toiletry drive by a job skills class for a local rescue mission, and prom-shop collaboration between the interact club, PTSA and High School North coordinators.
High School North representatives said North Student Council's Harm Wizards event sold over 500 tickets and raised more than $10,000 and that North delegates won awards at several Model UN and debate events. North's boys basketball finished the season with a 20-win mark and headed to state playoffs, and senior Malachi Jeffers Viera was recognized as North's all-time leading scorer.
The board and administrators then recognized coaches and student-athletes. The board's recognitions included: Coach Alisa Mastriani (Pirate girls soccer) and Katie Riley (boys cross country) named coach-of-the-year by a local newspaper and Shravan Pradeep, a South senior, who earned multiple regional and state cross-country honors. High School North's athletic director Jeff Riley recognized Allison Lee (Allison spelled as Lisonbee/Lisonbee in transcript) for qualifying for the Foot Locker Cross Country National Championship and other team recognitions including an 18-3 tennis team and county and sectional championships.
Superintendent-level administrators thanked students, parents, coaches and staff for their contributions and noted an upcoming presentation to the board on counseling data. The board also extended condolences and shared arrangements for a Grover Middle School student who recently passed away; Dr. Aderhold said the district would publish details and outreach to the Grover community.
Those recognized were invited to step forward for photographs and the board applauded the students and coaches for their achievements.
