At its Feb. 4 meeting the Powhatan County Planning Commission completed routine organizational items and administrative approvals.
Elections and appointments: Commissioners elected Craig Hughes as chair and Bobby Hall as vice chair for terms ending Jan. 31, 2026. Both elections were conducted by nomination and roll‑call vote; each position was approved unanimously by commissioners present.
Minutes and agenda: The commission approved the minutes from the Jan. 9, 2025 regular meeting and adopted the meeting agenda as presented.
Rules, schedule and ethics: The commission voted to adopt updated 2026 rules and procedures (staff said changes were primarily formatting and modeled on the Board of Supervisors’ format) and accepted the 2025–26 meeting schedule. Staff also circulated the Board of Supervisors’ new Code of Ethics (adopted at the Board’s January organizational meeting) and asked commissioners to sign the member statement of ethical standards; staff said the code applies to all county boards and commissions and is expected to guide members’ conduct.
Why it matters: These procedural actions set leadership and meeting rules for the coming year and align planning commission practice with county supervisory policy on ethics and meeting conduct.
