Michigan House Regulatory Reform committee adopts regular meeting schedule and committee rules

The House Committee on Regulatory Reform voted unanimously to set its regular meeting date, time and location and to adopt the committee's proposed rules for the session.

The committee, chaired by Gary Aragona, approved a motion to hold meetings on Thursdays at 9 a.m. in Room 519 of the House Office Building and later approved a package of committee rules that Aragona said will supplement the Uniform Committee rules adopted on the House floor.

The schedule motion was moved by Representative Liberati and both measures passed by voice roll call. The clerk reported "16 yeas, 0 nays, and 0 pass" for the schedule vote and later reported "16 ayes, 0 nays, and 0 pass" when the rules package was adopted.

Aragona opened the meeting by reading a letter from the Speaker appointing members to the standing Committee on Regulatory Reform and established that a quorum was present.

Aragona told members the committee will follow the Uniform Committee rules in chapter 4 of the House Rules and that the committee also had a proposed rule packet to adopt. Representative Fairbairn moved to adopt the packet; the motion passed on the roll call.

The committee's adoption of the schedule and the rule packet sets the panel's procedural framework for hearings and work over the coming term.

The committee then moved on to scheduled bill hearings and presentations.
