The New Kent County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Feb. 20 to amend the county personnel policies and procedures manual to raise regular on-call pay from $1.00 to $1.50 per hour and holiday on-call pay from $2.00 to $3.00 per hour.
County staff said the pay change is already funded in the FY25 budget and the amendment is intended to make the personnel manual consistent with that budget action. "In the current FY25 budget, we adopted a new rate for our on-call pay. We increased it from $1 to $1.50," said Mr. Hathaway, a county staff member who presented the item.
The amendment affects two departments that receive on-call pay, the presenter said: public utilities and general services. No additional budget appropriation was required because the change had been included in the adopted FY25 budget.
Supervisor Pearson moved the amendment. The motion carried on a roll-call vote: Supervisor Moyer, aye; Supervisor Pearson, aye; Supervisor Sears, aye; Supervisor Stewart, aye; Supervisor Evelyn, aye.
The board did not add further changes to the manual at that time; subsequent agenda items included a separate, comprehensive personnel manual update and contract approval.
