Warren County sheriff urges patience as multi‑agency bomb investigation continues

Sheriff Crystal Klein addressed the board and the public on the investigation that began as a motor-vehicle-theft probe and expanded after officers found suspected explosive material during a search.
“This is not a process that can or should be rushed,” Klein said, urging patience as local, state and federal partners work the case. Klein said deputies halted evidence processing when the item was observed, contacted the fire marshal and deputy fire chief and requested assistance from outside agencies to ensure safety.
Klein said she issued a carefully drafted media release intended to give the public information without compromising an active investigation. She asked residents to direct questions to the sheriff’s office while noting some investigative details cannot be disclosed publicly in order to preserve the integrity of the case.
Board members praised law enforcement’s handling of the incident and discussed how to improve coordinated public communication. Supervisor Stanmeyer said he waited until the sheriff’s press release was available before answering constituent questions and called for a system to get the same information to elected officials and the public simultaneously. County administrative remarks acknowledged a missed early notification to supervisors and the need to create a process so supervisors receive consistent information without jeopardizing investigations.
The board and sheriff said the controlled detonation at a county park was handled without injuries and that federal partners, including the ATF, assisted in the response.
