Lawrence County elections office outlines 2025 primary calendar and offices on the ballot

At the Feb. 26 meeting, Lawrence County Election Director Tim Germani reviewed key dates and the slate of offices for the 2025 municipal primary.
Germani said nomination petitions began Feb. 18. The last day to circulate and file nominating petitions is March 11. Nomination papers for minor-party and unaffiliated candidates may first be circulated on March 12. The final day to file objections to nomination petitions is March 18. The county's ballot-lottery drawing is scheduled for 10 a.m. March 19 in the commissioners' meeting room. The withdrawal deadline for candidates who filed nominating petitions is March 26.
Registration and absentee deadlines are: last day to register to vote for the primary, May 5; last day to apply for a mail-in or civilian absentee ballot, May 13; and the county must receive any mail-in ballots by 8 p.m. on Election Day, May 20. Germani reminded the board that mailed ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on May 20 to be counted.
Germani listed offices that will appear on county ballots: statewide, judge of the Superior Court and judge of the Commonwealth Court; countywide, three court of common pleas judges (Germani said this is the first time the county will have three such seats on the ballot at once), district attorney, register and recorder, sheriff, two district judges (including incumbents Judge Amode and Judge Russo who may file a statement of intent rather than signatures), municipal offices (mayors and council seats where applicable), school directors with varying term lengths and township supervisors and auditors. He noted some municipalities, including South Newcastle Borough, will change municipal status later in the year but will still appear on the ballot for the primary as currently constituted.
Germani said he will publish a proclamation listing the offices and will post corrected information to the county website. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about filing locations for certain judicial candidates; Germani confirmed candidates for courts of common pleas file in Harrisburg and the county receives copies.
