The Waukegan CUSD 60 Board of Education authorized the superintendent to approve a one‑year contract renewal with Sodexo LLC for district food service at a projected cost of $8,289,264.02, an allowable maximum increase of 3.66% over last year.
Board members pressed staff on follow‑up after earlier complaints about food quality, menu options and the district app used for menus and ordering. District staff said they held a follow‑up meeting with Sodexo the day after the prior board discussion and will continue discussions about menu presentation, app rollout and implementing grab‑and‑go operations where needed.
District staff explained the vendor recently transitioned its Nutrislice app to a new platform and the ordering function was a secondary priority after ensuring menu accuracy. Staff said Sodexo committed to a schedule of follow‑up actions and the district will monitor progress.
Several board members said they supported renewing the contract to avoid the cost and delay of issuing a new request for proposals, while reserving the right to hold Sodexo accountable for promised improvements.
The motion passed on roll call; the board president announced the item approved and the motion carried.
