Board completes organizational business: officers elected, committees and appointments reappointed

The Washington County Board of Supervisors completed its annual organizational business on Jan. 14, electing officers for 2025, reappointing committee memberships and naming representatives to regional boards.
Supervisor Randy Pennington was elected chairman and Supervisor Mike Rush was elected vice chairman by unanimous voice vote. Pennington succeeds outgoing Chairman Mike Rush. Supervisors also reappointed members to standing committees — including agriculture, facilities, emergency services, personnel, school budget, economic development and others — and made individual board appointments to external bodies, including the New River Mount Rogers Workforce Investment Area Consortium Board, the Southwest Regional Jail Authority and Mount Rogers ASAP.
The board also approved the consent agenda, a routine packet of items, and passed a resolution authorizing updated signatures for county checks to reflect officer changes.
