Gillespie re‑elected chair; board confirms officers and committee appointments

Tazewell County supervisors completed routine organizational business at the Jan. 7 meeting, electing leadership, adopting meeting rules and naming committee representatives for 2025.

Supervisor Aaron Gillespie was nominated and elected chairman by acclamation after a motion and vocal vote. The board also nominated and approved a vice chair (Mr. Crewey/Crewy as recorded). The board affirmed Robert’s Rules of Order as the official rules for conducting county business.

The board confirmed County Administrator Eric Young to continue as clerk to the Board of Supervisors and additionally appointed him as the county’s director of emergency management. Other appointments approved included designating David White as deputy director of emergency management and Barry Brooks as emergency management coordinator. The board set the 2025 meeting schedule (dates presented in the agenda) and selected times and locations as published.

Supervisors also appointed members to standing committees and liaisons: volunteers included Supervisor Presley as the county’s legislative contact with the Virginia Association of Counties (VACO) during the 2025 General Assembly; Supervisor Vodick and Supervisor Crude were added to the budget committee; personnel and other committee rosters were set; and a liaison to the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) and to the PSA were appointed or reappointed as reflected in meeting minutes.

Ending: The board completed its organizational agenda and moved into policy items, with leadership, committees and meeting calendar confirmed for 2025.
