Gadsden City Council adopts five resolutions including recycling trailers, CDBG consulting and lease amendment

The Gadsden City Council on an audiovisual voice vote adopted five resolutions covering equipment purchases, consulting services, a lease amendment, an event sponsorship and on-call hauling contracts.

The measures, each approved without recorded opposition, included a $65,280 purchase of recycling trailers to be reimbursed by an Alabama recycling fund grant; a $28,500 contract with BlueLinx Solutions for help preparing the city’s 2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) annual action plan and the 2025–29 consolidated plan; a third amendment to a lease with the University of Alabama raising a longstanding $10 monthly release to a $1,000 monthly lease through June; a sponsorship agreement with the Etowah County Tourism Board to support the Coosa Landing Super Bass Fishing Tournament including a $10,000 grand prize; and awards for on-call tri-axle dump truck and asphalt-hauling services under bid 3595 to Bedwell and Horton Escalation LLC, Howard Corp LLC and Dowdy Trucking.

Councilwoman Shelly Latham introduced the lease amendment, saying, “This amendment to the lease will replace a continuous release, a forever release, for the amount of $10 a month. It will be replaced with a lease that is $1,000 a month and right now will run through June.” Councilman Glynn Wilson described the tournament sponsorship as city support that includes “providing the $10,000 grand prize as well as some other support services.” Councilman Nathan Robinson moved to consider and adopt the hauling-contract resolution, explaining it would support the city’s larger asphalt jobs by providing on-call hauling capacity.
