The Education Administrative Subcommittee voted to update Palmetto Fellows scholarship regulations to include accounting and education majors for enhancements required by recent legislation.
Committee staff described document 53-22 as a companion to the LIFE scholarship changes, noting Palmetto Fellows are codified in a different chapter and therefore need separate regulatory amendments to add the same eligibility. "Because the, Palmetto Fellows are in a different chapter, we need to do the same thing, for the Palmetto Fellows," a department official explained during the briefing.
Representative James Tipple seconded the motion to adopt the regulation, members voiced affirmations and the chair recorded the motion as carried.
The adopted changes align Palmetto Fellows eligibility with statutory amendments passed last year and mirror the approach taken for the LIFE scholarship enhancement.
Committee staff did not record any amendments to eligibility criteria or GPA requirements during the vote.
The agency will transmit the adopted language through the administrative process.
