"It was probably gonna go down as one of the top 10 all-time worst acronyms," the subcommittee chairman said, describing the move to change the name.
The subcommittee had reviewed testimony and unanimously gave the bill a favorable report before it reached the full committee. Senators then moved and seconded a favorable report in the full Family and Veterans' Services Committee; the motion passed by voice vote with no recorded opposition, and the bill was forwarded to the Senate floor with a favorable report.
Committee members did not raise operational or budget concerns during the brief discussion. The change modifies the program name only; committee staff told senators there is no fiscal impact attached to the renaming.
