Farmington selects Roderick Means as MASB Region 8 nominee after balloted discussion

After an extended discussion and a written ballot process, the Farmington Board of Education selected Roderick Means as its nominee for the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) Region 8 board of directors.
Board members first discussed candidate backgrounds and regional representation. Mrs. Heinrich said she reviewed candidate bios and sought representation outside Oakland County; she cited Roderick Means’ MASB committee work and conference presentations. Several board members raised concerns about geographic balance among candidates.
The board used a written ballot: Dr. Turner cast a ballot for Anisha Hanna; Mrs. Heinrich, President Weems and Mr. Hull cast ballots for Roderick Means; Dr. Blau cast a ballot for Scott Wallace. That initial count resulted in three ballots for Means, one for Wallace and one for Hanna. A later motion to cast the district’s ballot for Roderick Means and to authorize the superintendent’s office to submit the ballot carried in a roll call vote with all board members recorded as voting yes.
Board members said they wanted a transparent record: the chair read each board member’s written choice aloud for the minutes before the final motion. Farmington will submit Roderick Means’ name to MASB as the district’s Region 8 nominee.
