The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 25 proclaimed February 2025 as Civil Grand Jury Awareness Month in Calaveras County and thanked current and former grand jurors for their public service.
Vicky Plogger, foreperson of the county civil grand jury for 2024–2025, accepted the proclamation and described the selection of 19 jurors who serve one‑year terms and the jury’s role as an independent investigative body that may review local government operations and issue reports with recommendations. Brenda McHenry, vice president of the Motherlode chapter of the Civil Grand Jury Association, addressed the board to urge continued outreach and recruitment for future jurors.
Board action: Supervisor Tolfanelli moved the proclamation and Supervisor Bullendorf seconded; the board voted unanimously to adopt the proclamation.
Context: Plogger dedicated the proclamation to Diane Lloyd, the prior foreperson who died in January, and the board and staff expressed appreciation for the volunteers and for court and county staff who support the jury. No policy or funding actions accompanied the proclamation; it is a ceremonial recognition encouraging citizen participation in grand jury service.
