Council recognizes Oahu Transit Services Rodeo winners; champions to compete nationally

The Honolulu City Council recognized winners of Oahu Transit Services’ 2024 Bus Maintenance and Handyvan Rodeo and congratulated champions who will go on to national competitions in 2025.
Council members said the rodeo, held Dec. 13, 2024, at the Pearl City bus facility featured 28 bus-operator competitors on an obstacle course, six bus maintenance teams completing timed diagnostics and repairs, and 13 handy-van drivers on a paratransit course. Council Member Cordero announced Douglas Rego as the top bus-operator winner (326 out of 375 points). The first-place maintenance team led by captain Keith Yanagi — with Leon Cordero and Alexander (surname unclear in transcript) — scored 1,465 out of 1,875 possible points and will represent Oahu Transit Services at the 2025 APTA International Bus Rodeo in Austin, Texas.
In the Handyvan competition, Delandra Costa won first place with a score of 307 out of 375 points and will compete at the 2025 CTAA National Community Transportation Rodeo in San Diego, California. Council remarks thanked Oahu Transit Services leadership in the chamber, including President and General Manager Robert Yu, senior vice president/deputy GM Jenny Lemo Lemoota, and DOT director Roger Morton and deputy director John Nucci, and extended best wishes to the competitors representing OTS nationally.
The council read a ceremonial resolution congratulating all winners and acknowledged the role of OTS staff and volunteers in safety and rider service.
