Clay County approves three bridge final payments and authorizes advertising for three more bridge replacements

The Clay County Board of Commissioners approved final contract vouchers for three bridge‑replacement projects and authorized advertisement for three additional bridge replacements to be bid as a single contract.

Justin, county highway staff, presented final payments for three completed bridge projects constructed by Hule Excavating LLC: SAP 14,598,078 (final amount $179,014.00), SAP 14,610,034 (final amount $467,095.52) and SAP 14,637,004 (final amount $296,551). Commissioners moved and approved each final voucher by voice vote.

Highway staff then asked the board to approve advertising a set of three bridges to be bid together under BSAP 14590879 (county road 51 south of Comstock), SAP 145909105 (Goose Prairie Township) and SAP 145909114 (Elkton Township). Justin told the board both affected townships had approved the projects and their cost shares. He proposed a letting date of March 25; the board approved advertising the combined contract and the specified letting date by voice vote.

Commissioners discussed construction timing and noted contracts are typically scheduled to avoid agricultural peak seasons. The highway office said work would likely be completed during the summer and that contractors are commonly given completion windows to work around beet harvest and other local needs.

Ending: The board authorized final payment of the three completed bridge projects and directed staff to advertise the new aggregated bridge contract with a March 25 letting date; townships will be notified and staff will manage letting logistics.
