Board approves new safety and mobility roles, expands extracurriculars and raises substitute rates

Plainfield SD 202’s Board of Education on Feb. 26 moved multiple personnel and program items forward, including placing policy revisions on 30-day public display, approving two new district positions and adding girls fall flag football as an extracurricular sport.
Board member Doctor Ruhland moved to place a package of policies on 30-day public display; that motion carried by roll call. The policies listed in the motion included Policy 02/2020 (board member development), 2:250 (access to district public records), 4:30 (revenue and investments), 4:138 (student fees, fines and charges), 6:130 (program for the gifted), 6:134 (advanced college placement), 6:135 (accelerated placement program) and 6:310 (high school credit for non-district experiences).
On personnel, the board approved the creation of a director of safety and security position and an orientation and mobility specialist position. Both positions were recommended by the Policy and Personnel committee and passed on board motions and roll-call votes.
The board also approved a new extracurricular sport: fall girls flag football. The motion was seconded and passed by roll call.
Separately, the board approved increases to substitute pay rates for the 2025–26 and 2027–28 school years, as presented by staff. The substitute-rate change was moved, seconded and approved on a roll call.
The motions were presented as committee recommendations. Board discussion acknowledged that the orientation and mobility specialist could reduce outsourcing costs and might present potential revenue or service advantages for the district. No amendments to the motions were recorded.
