Laura DeGaulier, a resident and science writer who spoke in support of the measure, described local birding at Souples Marsh and urged adoption of the resolution. “World migratory bird day is here to remind all of us that birds are an essential part of our world,” DeGaulier said, noting that “we have lost 3,000,000,000 birds in the last 50 years.” She invited residents to bird walks and an evening program at the library featuring rehabilitated birds.
Public Works Director Mr. DeVries introduced the resolution and recommended approval, noting the city's longstanding participation in the Bird City program and local events scheduled for late April and early May. The motion to approve was made by Mr. Mullen and seconded by Mr. Heisler; the transcript records the vote as passing unanimously.
