Sheriff outlines school resource officer expansion and cybercrime investigator assignment in Solano County

Brad Wall, identified in the meeting as Solano County undersheriff, described a plan to assign two deputies, Deputy Stephanie Cherry and Emily Watkins, to be attached to the patrol bureau but assigned to unincorporated-area schools to provide a regular presence. Wall said the sheriff "we are rededicating ourselves and committing ourselves to being the guardians of our schools and protectors of our children." (Brad Wall, undersheriff)
Wall also announced the assignment of Detective Hughes to work on major crime investigations with a specialty in internet crimes, and said the detective would help address cyberbullying and other online harms affecting students. Wall cited a local case in which investigators seized a large volume of child exploitation material to underline the need for specialized investigative capacity.
The sheriff said the office is looking for grant funding and school-district partnerships to underwrite positions, and that the deputies assigned to schools will support emergency exercises, threat assessments and classroom outreach. No specific new recurring county budget appropriation was approved at the meeting; Wall said funding conversations with school districts and grant sources are ongoing.
