Solano County honors Sheila O. Turgo after 27 years in auditor-controlleroffice

The Solano County Board of Supervisors on the record adopted a resolution and presented a plaque honoring Sheila O. Turgo for 27 years of service in the auditor-controller's office, the board said.

The boardpassed the resolution by a recorded voice vote described in the meeting as "ordered by a vote of 4 0." The resolution and remarks at the Feb. meeting noted Turgorose through multiple accounting and auditor positions and served as acting auditor-controller before retiring.

Why it matters: The auditor-controller's office prepares and certifies county financial reports, audits and other records that municipalities, departments and outside agencies rely on for budgeting, bond issuance and state reporting. Supervisors and staff credited Turgo with helping Solano maintain consecutive awards for financial reporting.

Supervisor remarks highlighted Turgoas a "watchdog for the taxpayers" who helped keep county operations efficient. Sheila O. Turgo, identified in the meeting as acting auditor-controller, spoke to the board and recounted her career path from the Philippines to Solano County and thanked colleagues and family. A staff member who worked with Turgo praised her as a mentor and teacher, saying she had "a way of making us all feel valued, respected, and heard" and called Turgo "our fearless leader."
