Putnam County 4‑H members present blueberry project; fair showcase set for March 28

Putnam County Extension agents introduced the county’s annual 4‑H blueberry project at the commission meeting and invited commissioners and the public to the Putnam County Fair silent auction on Friday, March 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Extension staff described the program as a hands‑on youth agriculture and life‑skills project: participants keep record books, learn repotting and crop care, and present at the fair where some projects are sold at auction. Heather (4‑H agent) and Julio (horticulture agent) explained that students keep record books and practice public speaking at the sale. Sixth‑grader Tatum Lynn spoke about her fifth year in the blueberry project, noting, “Last year, I won best of show, and I was able to sell them in the live auction Friday night for $250.” She invited the public to attend the fair and the silent auction.

Extension staff also said Putnam County would showcase blueberries during Rural County Day in Tallahassee in March. Presenters encouraged residents to buy “Fresh From Florida” produce during berry season; staff noted local farms’ U‑Pick schedules and described area acreage in berries and sunflowers.
