Boyertown senior Abigail Dawson named CTE Presidential Scholar nominee; commits to Kutztown University

Abigail Dawson, a senior at Boyertown High School and a participant in Burke’s Career and Technical Center’s video and media content production program, was recognized by the Boyertown Area School District Board of Directors as a nominee to the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program in career and technical education. Dawson told the board she committed to Kutztown University’s video media content production program earlier the same day and described her work in live video production and editing.
The board introduced Dawson during the meeting’s recognition segment and presented her with a certificate of recognition and a commemorative mug. Superintendent David Heiser (introduced at the meeting as Dr. David Heiser) and other board members praised her work; Dawson said her BCTC experience, which includes live productions and public service announcements, led to the nomination. She described one entry that was a PSA addressing teen mental health and another project that demonstrated editing techniques.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, established in 1964 and expanded in subsequent years to recognize students in the arts and career and technical education, names up to 161 scholars annually. Dawson was described at the meeting as one of five nominees from Pennsylvania and one of 105 nominees nationally in the program’s CTE category. The district said links to Dawson’s videos were attached to the meeting agenda for the public to view.
The board’s recognition also included a brief mention of the district’s NJROTC annual inspection scheduled for the following Monday. Board members and staff encouraged Dawson and thanked her parents for attending. No formal board action was taken as part of the recognition segment.
Dawson’s nomination and commitment to Kutztown University were presented as part of the meeting’s recognitions and did not require board approval. The district posted materials and referenced the videos on the meeting agenda page for public access.
