Committee reviews capital needs: daycare flooring, library roof and senior center repairs

Committee members reviewed several maintenance and capital projects that staff intend to include in an upcoming capital‑projects package, and staff outlined budgetary estimates and scheduling constraints.

Rick, the county maintenance supervisor, reported budgetary bids for the daycare flooring project that ranged from about $30,000 to $35,000 but told the committee those were preliminary budgetary numbers that would need full specifications and a sealed bid process. Contractors told staff they were uncomfortable performing the daycare flooring work while children are present; staff discussed temporary relocation options and said the sheriff offered access to Connex storage for equipment and materials.

On the Telemundo library roof (described in the meeting as a library roof with long‑running gutter and coating problems), staff said earlier patch coatings have failed and that a recent removal revealed rust and deterioration under old coatings on a metal roof. Staff said the work may require an engineered fix or a larger re-roofing approach to remove valleys and gutters that repeatedly cause leaks; that solution would be substantially more expensive and require further design and budgeting.

Rick also updated the committee on the senior-center bathroom work. Flooring was completed; the center director requested tile backsplashes and new dividers, which would add to the scope. Staff said they are waiting for the director to select tile; once selected, the county will finish the cosmetic work.

Committee staff said they will gather detailed specifications and include these items in the capital-projects list for the next budget cycle and follow the usual sealed-bid process.
