The addendum raises the city contribution from $250,000 to $320,000 to cover a $70,000 sound‑system upgrade that was not feasible within the original scope and budget. The addendum also requires Lakeland Preparatory School’s audio‑visual program to produce two videos per year for five years for the city to use on the board.
Superintendent Dr. Horrell explained the change, saying the school had “couldn’t update the sound system, which had been in our initial scope per the original MOU, and get the size and the resolution that we wanted,” and that the city “decided to go ahead and fund the sound system as well.” He recommended approval of the updated MOU.
Board member Ms. Shouts thanked the mayor and the board for the partnership and said the student production requirement aligns with a new work‑based learning program for 12th graders. “This is a great addition to this memorandum, so that we can have some real world application of it,” she said.
The board also approved a corresponding FY 2024–25 budget amendment to record the city transfer in and the transfer out to pay for the scoreboard and related work. Dr. Horrell described the budget change as the item that “would, basically create a, the total budget amendment there to cover the transfers in from the city and then the transfer out to pay for the board.”
The motion to approve the MOU addendum and the separate motion to adopt the FY24–25 budget amendment both passed following standard voice votes.
