The Town of Templeton Select Board voted Feb. 26 to approve Buildings & Grounds staff representation by Public Employees Local 39 (Laborers International Union of North America). The board authorized the town administrator to sign paperwork to place two full‑time buildings and grounds employees into Local 39.
Town Administrator Adam LaBontaine said the two employees sought the change and that their work closely aligns with highway and sewer staff represented by Local 39. "Quite frankly, I'm surprised building grounds full timers haven't been part of this union already," LaBontaine said during the discussion.
Board members confirmed the move does not require an immediate change to the town budget lines and that from a personnel perspective the employees switch from non‑union to union representation. The motion to approve the request and to authorize the town administrator to sign passed unanimously.
Vote: The Select Board voted 5–0 to approve the request and authorize the town administrator to execute any necessary paperwork.
