Board reaffirms library policy that references MCFLS procedures; trustees question review frequency

Trustees reaffirmed an existing policy that adopts Milwaukee County Federated Library System procedures and discussed spacing out policy reviews rather than monthly reaffirmations.
The Franklin Public Library Board of Trustees voted to reaffirm a policy (appendix A) that states the library will adhere to Milwaukee County Federated Library System procedures.
Judy Williams Kalaki moved to reaffirm the policy; Mike Karlovitz seconded the motion and it passed on a routine vote. Trustees asked whether the board needs to reaffirm policies so frequently and suggested spacing reviews out — for example, reviewing unchanged policies no more often than every three years — so the board is not repeatedly voting to "reaffirm" unchanged language.
No substantive changes were made to the policy at the meeting. Staff agreed to develop a recommended policy-review cadence for the board’s consideration at a future meeting.
Separately, per state reporting requirements, the board also approved a one-page statement that the Milwaukee County Federated Library System provided effective leadership in 2024; that procedural motion passed without dissent.
