Public Works and recreation staff told the council Feb. 25 that several park projects funded in last year27s budget are advancing.
Jim O'Connell and Joe Bernardo of public works reported that the Charles Park playground is completed and inspected; a ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for March 4. Leisure Square27s new playground equipment is expected to arrive in about 10 weeks; construction would take approximately three weeks once delivered, with staff aiming for readiness before summer camp.
Staff said they have replaced nine roof structures at parks (including Young's Park and Bethel Creek) and begun Humiston Park roof work. The Riverside parking lot paving (mill and overlay) is targeted to begin around March 24 if the March 11 contractor agenda timeline is met. Public works also purchased 40 aluminum picnic tables to replace deteriorated concrete units; some replacements already installed and more in stock.
Public works said community center repairs and center-stage roof work are progressing; materials for the center-stage roof were expected to arrive the week following the meeting. The observation room was built and city inspections were being finalized.
Council members thanked staff for the progress and said continued maintenance and planning will improve day-to-day user experience at parks.
Ending: Staff asked for patience while remaining repairs and inspections are finalized; ribbon-cutting dates and paving start dates will be posted when contractor schedules are confirmed.
