St. Marys details spring cleanup, dumpster rules and new tote guidance

Public services said the city will again hold a spring cleanup with dumpsters available to city residents at the wastewater treatment plant off Defiance Road; residents must present a current city utility bill as proof of residency. The director gave two date ranges for the cleanup: March 10–15 and March 24–29, and said there will be no curbside pickup during those events. Operating hours for the dumpsters were given as noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday of the cleanup weeks. The director said household garbage, tires and hazardous materials will not be accepted.
City staff clarified rules for the new curbside tote collection system: totes are for regular household bagged trash only (not construction debris such as broken furniture, shingles, carpeting or toilets). Lids must be closed and handles should face away from the curb (an arrow on the lid indicates correct orientation). Residents were asked to remove totes from the curb after collection. If residents need additional trash pickup, they must call for a special pickup and pay an additional charge; residents may also buy an extra tote, which will be added to their utility bill.
Public services reported significant overtime following the most recent snow event (29.75 hours of overtime reported) and announced that a long-time employee, Doug, will have a final day with the city on the 28th (as stated in the meeting). The city plans a retirement reception and encouraged council and staff to attend.
