Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada to run Gerlach housing-rehab program; county to help bundle projects

Washoe County told the Gerlach CAB it is partnering with Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada to deliver a targeted housing-rehabilitation program for low-income homeowners, seniors and people with disabilities in Gerlach and nearby hamlets, and to bundle additional homeowner projects to attract contractors.
"We've had a previous grant with them, through our ARPA funding... they received a large sum of money from the state of Nevada for rehabilitation... Washoe County's funds... are assisting with that component," Gabrielle (Gabby) told the board, explaining the county will support intake, eligibility and logistics so Rebuilding Together can focus grant dollars on repairs.
Key program details announced at the meeting: - A Gerlach survey is open Feb. 13–March 13 to identify needs and participants; intake and eligibility screening begins Feb. 17. - Assessments and some on-the-day handyman repairs will be scheduled in May; major renovation contracting and work is planned for July–September. - Rebuilding Together performs three programs (Safe at Home, fall-prevention and critical home repairs) and the maximum grant award per home for critical repairs is $20,000; licensed contractors do larger repairs. - The nonprofit provides contractor vetting, project management and a minimum one-year warranty on work performed.
Gabby said the county will help publicize the program (flyers, Facebook and the post office) and will consider printing and mailing materials for outreach. The program's initial focus is homeowners eligible for the state grant (low income, seniors, veterans and people with disabilities), but Gabby said she has asked Rebuilding Together to accept survey responses from other homeowners so projects can be bundled for contractor bids.
Board members asked whether remote areas such as Duck Flat and Fish Springs would be included; Gabby said logistics will be worked out but that the county intends to serve Northern Washoe County hamlets. No final contractor awards were announced; county staff said they will schedule assessments and publish more details after the intake window.
Residents were urged to complete the survey to be considered for assessments and potential repairs.
