Washoe County wins $20 million FLAP grant to repair County Route 34; environmental review next

Washoe County told the Gerlach CAB it has been awarded a $20 million FLAP (Federal Lands Access Program) grant to repair County Route 34 between the Y and the 8-mile marker, with negotiations under way and an environmental review ahead.
"They reapplied to, the FLAP grant... and were awarded $20,000,000," County Manager Eric Brown said. He described the award as the product of multiple applications and said the county is negotiating with the federal agency and preparing the required NEPA environmental review.
Board members asked whether the award covered the full length requested. Brown said the grant covers work up to mile 8; the county had sought funding up to mile 12 but met with a positive outcome despite not receiving the full-distance ask. "It's 8 miles from the y up to the 8 mile marker. I think we actually asked to get up to the 12 mile marker," Brown said.
Brown cautioned the project will take time due to federal approvals, starting with NEPA. No construction schedules or contractor awards were announced at the CAB meeting.
