Committee members discussed Fish & Wildlife’s current budget shortfall and noted declining license and federal revenues; the committee described an $85,000 backfill to address immediate operating needs but said the department may require a longer-term solution. Members also reviewed a proposed municipal wastewater‑connections database and a multi-part funding package tied to EPA-related issues and ANR obligations; staff described a rough current estimate and asked ANR to confirm whether funds already appear elsewhere in the budget adjustment or in prior appropriations.
Members said that some natural-resources items have historically been flat-funded and asked agencies to clarify whether requests are one-time or ongoing and whether funds have already been obligated in other budget sections. Several items in community development, including housing and TIFF-related line items, remain open for additional vetting with commerce and housing partners.
No formal actions were taken; the committee will seek follow-up from ANR and Fish & Wildlife and will reconcile requests that appear in multiple places before making recommendations.
