The board asked staff to add language clarifying when remote instruction will be used and how attendance will be taken. - Hot-spot loans: hot-spot devices are loaned but not permanently issued; staff worry about practicalities when a closure is unplanned and hot spots are not already checked out. - Employee expectations: the district’s draft left open whether nonessential staff must report during closures; board members preferred only essential personnel report on snow days and acknowledged overtime pay for essential staff when required. - Calendar change: to reduce lost instruction time, staff described a possible calendar adjustment to add a fourth day in the final week of the school year (next year) to provide an additional make-up day for secondary finals and to reduce the need for remote days.
Dan said staff will refine E B C E to include remote-instruction procedures (posted lessons, scheduled teacher availability windows by subject and a method for taking attendance) and will return the policy for first reading after adjustments.
