Gretchen, speaking on behalf of Taylor Community during the public comment period at the Laconia City Council meeting on Feb. 24, thanked staff at the Hewitt program for their partnership and described ongoing collaboration between Taylor Community residents and students.
Gretchen said the Taylors’ staff and residents take part in mock interviews and other joint activities, and highlighted a mentorship program at the middle school run by Abby Rivett. She told the council that many programs at Taylor Community’s Laconia campus are open to the public and that the organization tries to broadly advertise lectures and events, including Red Cross blood drives.
Council members asked whether nonresidents could attend events listed on Taylor Community’s marquee; Gretchen confirmed events are open to the public and said the organization shares listings through local channels when possible. She also mentioned a staff member, Michael, who sends regular messages to residents and a construction manager who is a graduate of the Hewitt program as examples of the partnership’s outcomes.
Councilor Bill and others praised Taylor Community’s participation in local fundraisers; the remarks drew no formal council action.
