Representatives of the Salvation Army’s Irving/Dallas‑area service unit thanked council members for participating in the 2024 Red Kettle mayoral challenge and described how the campaign helps local residents with rent, utilities, food and shelter.
Lieutenant Richard Reynolds, corps officer, and Resmond Richardson, major gifts manager for Dallas County, told the council the mayoral challenge and kettle collections helped raise funds to support services in the area. “Your combined efforts on your day at the kettle helped us raise over $380 to help people in our community, provide things like rent utility assistance, food, clothing, nights of shelter,” Reynolds said (transcript figure as stated by presenter).
They described both in‑person kettles and a virtual fundraising link as ways to maintain giving beyond the holiday season and suggested the city promote virtual kettles and include kettles at other community events such as tree lightings and parades. The presenters gave a certificate and a bell to the mayor as a token of appreciation. Council members thanked the Salvation Army and discussed volunteer opportunities; the council did not take any formal action on the presentation.
