Madison County reassessment raises property values; board to consider lower tax rate at April hearing

Madison County supervisors heard a detailed update on a countywide reassessment that county staff said raised overall real estate values from about $2.7 billion to roughly $4.0 billion.
The reassessment, contracted to Wingate Appraisal Services, used recent sales data and field visits to set new fair-market values for parcels countywide, county staff told the board. The assessor’s office will accept informal appeals through March 5 and appeals to the Board of Equalization later this year, staff said.
