Allegheny County Council approves park use agreements, compost site and multiple appointments

Allegheny County Council on Feb. 25 voted unanimously to approve three ordinances allowing community organizations to continue using county park property and confirmed multiple appointments presented by the Committee on Appointment Review.
Council approved Ordinance 13383-25 to allow Amateur Astronomers Association in Pittsburgh to continue astronomy-related programs in Deer Lakes Park, Ordinance 13384-25 to permit Family Links Inc. to provide human-services programming in Boyce Park, and Ordinance 13385-25 to authorize the North Hills Council of Governments to use North Park as a community leaf-compost site. Each ordinance passed on recorded votes of 15-0.
Council also approved appointments referred from the Committee on Appointment Review. The body approved the second-reading appointment of Grant Gitlin to the Allegheny County Housing Authority for a term through Dec. 31, 2029. It confirmed the appointment of Alan Shukro to the Accountability, Conduct and Ethics Commission for a term through Feb. 11, 2030. Council then approved a group of reappointments and appointments to various Friends of the Park organizations; the committee had reviewed and recommended those nominations.
Clerk-read titles for the park ordinances described each measure as a renewal of long-standing, county-supported arrangements that allow nonprofit and community partners to deliver services or operate programs on county park property. Vice President Paul Merry spoke in support of the Deer Lakes and Boyce Park arrangements; Vice President Palmeri introduced the motion for the North Park compost site.
