Martin County highlights parks, public safety response, veterans services and $85 million in grants in 2024 State of the County

At a recent State of the County presentation, Martin County officials reviewed 2024 accomplishments and ongoing priorities including park improvements, environmental restoration, expanded library services for neurodivergent patrons, veterans benefits delivery, emergency responses to multiple significant incidents and management of about $85 million in state and federal grants.

The address emphasized why those items matter to residents: county leaders said grant funding helps reduce reliance on ad valorem taxes, environmental projects protect the St. Lucie Estuary and beaches, and public-safety work sustained local response capacity during fires and Hurricane Milton.

Among the stated service metrics, the presentation said Martin County’s veteran services office assisted more than 16,000 local veterans last year, filed 872 claims and helped recover over $5,000,000 in previously uncollected benefit payments. The county also reported it is managing roughly $85,000,000 in state and federal grants through its budget office and noted the workload differences between obtaining grants, spending them appropriately and surviving audits.
