Associated Student Body President Emmanuel Lopez updated the board on high school activities, saying baseball and softball seasons have started and describing a school basketball tournament that culminates with the championship against a faculty team. He also reported Farmville/Farmersville FFA activities, including a fundraiser that raised $150.04 for Children’s Valley Hospital.
During public comment, Alma Espinosa described a STEAM symposium in San Diego she attended in February. She said workshops emphasized building partnerships, perseverance in seeking internships and outside speakers (for example from NASA), hands‑on activities that connect engineering and math, and vendor resources the district could consider for local STEAM programs. Espinosa said the district‑funded summer STEAM program runs six weeks and that she is excited to apply what she learned.
Athletics and extracurricular approvals tied to these reports also appeared on the agenda. A community representative from Tulare County Special Olympics, Jenny Ranney, thanked the district for continued pool access and described swimmer levels and competition experience; the board ratified the Special Olympics facility request for use of the Farmersville High School pool.
The superintendent and board also recognized ongoing staff professional learning, with district staff attending professional learning community sessions through the CAPS network in Simi Valley.
