The Ithaca Landmarks Preservation Commission voted Feb. 25 to grant a two-year extension to a previously issued certificate of appropriateness for work at Caldwell Hall, an individual local landmark. The extension covers a chimney removal/repair project that had been approved in January 2021 but was delayed.
Staff told the commission the university submitted the extension request to avoid repeating the full design-review process; the work involves removal of an abandoned flue and repairs to roof areas that leaked. The commission found cause to extend the earlier approval so the project can proceed during the upcoming construction season.
The resolution extends the prior certificate for two years from the date of adoption and notes that the extension permits the university to proceed without re-submitting materials that were previously approved. The commission recorded no public comment on the item and voted without additional conditions.
