The Union County Public Schools Finance Committee voted Feb. 25 to forward the district’s 2025 audit contract to the full board for approval.
The committee heard from Shauna, finance staff, who said the contract is about $2,000 higher than last year’s contract. “Last year, our total audit contract was 49,000. This year, it's 51. That's about a 4% increase,” Shauna said, adding that auditors will begin compliance work in April.
Committee members discussed the long-term relationship with the auditing firm Anderson, Smith and White and options to solicit competitive bids. Shauna said the district has used Anderson, Smith and White since about 1989 and that the same partner, Adam, has led recent audits. She said there is no state statute requiring firms be rotated and that only a few firms in the state perform school-district audits.
A committee member suggested issuing a request for proposals next year “to keep them honest,” and Shauna said she can put an RFP together when the contract is due for renewal.
The committee voted by voice to send the audit contract item to the full board for action.
The full contract and engagement letter were made available to committee members as part of the meeting packet.
