Board prepares several contracts for consent; UNCW license MOA added to next week’s consent and approved 7-0

During its agenda review, the New Hanover County Schools Board of Education listed several consent and contract items that staff said will be routed through the regular consent agenda.
Board members discussed a contract with Data Network Solutions to replace the district’s core data center with a Nutanix system. A staff member explained the Nutanix system would replace the district’s current Cisco/VMware configuration, saying it offers updated features, greater scalability and cost-effectiveness; part of the purchase would be covered by E-rate funding and part by local funds.
The agenda also listed a change order to the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) agreement for New Hanover High School structural repairs (phase 2b), and a contract with NC Sound for intercom systems. Board members flagged these items for the consent agenda under the meeting’s consensus items.
Separately, a Unversity of North Carolina Wilmington license/use memorandum of agreement (MOA) for a lab classroom supporting a young-adult transition program was presented. A staff member described it as a boilerplate MOA that updates an existing agreement supporting a lab classroom at UNCW’s Watson College. A motion to place that MOA on next week’s consent agenda was made and seconded; the board approved the placement and subsequent consent item by voice vote, 7-0.
Other consent items mentioned during the review included summer testing plans (required for retesting students who did not meet EOG/EOC thresholds) and policy items scheduled for second reading.
